Today's Forecast

Showers arrive Tuesday

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (WDVM) — OVERNIGHT, HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO MOVE OFFSHORE AS A STORM HEADS OUR WAY. THE ATTENDANT COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE AREA DURING THE MORNING AND INTO THE AFTERNOON BRINGING ABOUT LIGHT PRECIPITATION, IN THE FORM OF RAIN SHOWERS. AFTERNOON HIGHS WILL BE ABOVE NORMAL FOR LATE FEBRUARY, IN THE 50S. BY MONDAY NIGHT WE SHOULD BE LOOKING AT DRYING OUT.

BY MID-WEEK AND INTO NEXT WEEKEND, THE LONG RANGE FORECAST APPEARS TO MAINLY BE QUIET; HOWEVER, THE MAIN THING TO WATCH DURING THIS PERIOD IS THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY AS A STORM DEVELOPS OFF THE CAROLINA COAST. THIS SYSTEM LOOKS FAIRLY WEAK, BUT IT MAY SPREAD OVERRUNNING PRECIPITATION WELL BACK INTO THE COLD AIR ACROSS THE MAINLAND. TODAY, TWO OF THE THREE LONG RANGE GUIDANCE MODELS THAT I LOOK AT (THE CANADIAN AND EUROPEAN) HAVE PUSHED THIS MOISTURE SHIELD FURTHER NORTHWEST, EDGING IT INTO OUR REGION THURSDAY NIGHT. WITH COLD AIR IN PLACE, THIS WOULD LIKELY BE SNOW. HOWEVER, OTHER GUIDANCE CONTINUES TO STAY MOSTLY AWAY FROM OUR REGION, SO AT THIS TIME WE, IN THE WDVM WEATHER CENTER, ARE CONTINUING WITH THE GENERALLY DRY AND CHILLY FORECAST. JUST LIKE LAST WEEK, THE COLD SHOT WILL BE BRIEF, AND BY SATURDAY, WARMER AIR WILL MOVE BACK INTO THE REGION. OVERALL, DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WEDNESDAY WILL REACH THE MID-40S, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WILL SEE THE THERMOMETER RANGING BETWEEN THE UPPER 30S TO LOW 40S AND OVER THE WEEKEND, HIGHS LOOK TO REACH THE LOW TO MID 50S.

HERE’S A LOOK AT YOUR EXTENDED FORECAST:

TONIGHT: INCREASING CLOUDS WITH SHOWERS DEVELOPING BY DAWN. LOWS RANGING FROM THE MID TO UPPER 30S.

TUESDAY: RAIN LIKELY AND MILD. HIGHS IN THE 50S.

WEDNESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND TURNING COOLER. HIGHS IN THE MID-40S.

THURSDAY-FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 30S.

WEEKEND: PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHTLY MILDER. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 40S TO LOWER 50S.

MONDAY: BECOMING CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE MID-30S TO LOW 40S.

HAVE A GREAT REST OF YOUR DAY!
