A very chilly night ahead

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (WDVM) — GOOD WEDNESDAY! TONIGHT AS THE NORTHWEST WINDS GRADUALLY RELAX, UNDER MOSTLY CLEAR TO CLEAR SKIES, OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TO DROP QUITE SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE UPPER TEENS ACROSS THE HIGHER MOUNTAIN TOPS TO NEAR FREEZING IN THE D.C. METRO AREA. AS HIGH-PRESSURE SHIFTS TO OUR SOUTHEAST THURSDAY AND FRIDAY DRY CONDITIONS AND WARMING TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TO PREVAIL UNDER A SOUTHERLY WIND DIRECTION. GENERALLY SPEAKING, TEMPERATURES THURSDAY WILL BE ROUGHLY 10 DEGREES WARMER THAN TODAY WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID 50S. SIMILARLY, TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO WARM ON FRIDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID 60S FOR MOST, AND MID-50S IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

AS A COLD FRONT APPROACHES THE REGION OVER THE WEEKEND, HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE FURTHER OUT TO SEA, ALLOWING FOR MORE CLOUDS TO BUILD ACROSS THE AREA. OVERALL, THOUGH CONDITIONS SHOULD REMAIN DRY UNTIL THE FRONT PASSES THROUGH THE AREA LATE SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. DEPENDING ON TIMING, MOST MODELS HAVE THE FRONT PASSING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY ALLOWING FOR A CHANCE FOR SHOWERS. RAIN AMOUNTS ARE LOOKING TO BE VERY LIGHT AND THERE MAY BE A BRIEF PERIOD OF MIXED PRECIPITATION ALONG THE ALLEGHENY FRONT MONDAY NIGHT. TEMPERATURES FOR THE EXTENDED PERIOD WILL BE A FEW DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL, WITH MOST AREAS IN THE 60S SUNDAY AND MONDAY. HIGHS ON TUESDAY BEHIND THE COLD FRONT ARE FORECAST TO DROP SIGNIFICANTLY AND BE IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL BE IN THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 30S TO LOW 40S ACROSS MOST AREAS.

TONIGHT: COLD. LOWS RANGE FROM 27-35 DEGREES.

THURSDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY, SLIGHTLY MILDER. HIGHS IN THE 50S.

FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND WARMER. HIGHS IN THE 60S.

WEEKEND: VARIABLY CLOUDY WITH LATE SHOWERS AND STAYING MILD. HIGHS IN THE 60S.

MONDAY: EARLY SHOWERS THEN CLEARING. HIGHS AROUND 60 DEGREES.

TUESDAY: SUNNY AND COLDER. HIGHS AROUND 50 DEGREES.

WEDNESDAY: RAIN. HIGHS AROUND 50 DEGREES.
