Young actors brought the Civil War to life at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in downtown Frederick on Friday.

The original performance called, “Children of War,” was created by letters and diaries of young people who lived through the Civil War. Nine actors from the Mid-Maryland Performing Arts Center Theatric troupe researched and created a monologue. The audience moved throughout the galleries of the museum from hospitals to homes.

“For them to talk about things that happen here in their town; to be able to bring history to life for them like that, it is extraordinary and it is really allowed them to connect to history in a way that I have never seen before,” said Nicole Ruark, instructor, the Mid-Maryland Performing Arts Center.

The nine actors had back to back performances and had a panel discussion after.
