In the early hours of Saturday morning, an Arlington woman faced an intruder. Thanks to the Arlington County Police Department’s 911 text feature, she was able to dial for help right away. Police report the woman was asleep and awoke to 37-year-old Dominus Dayton kissing her on the cheek.
“It’s a great opportunity if you’re in a situation in which you’re unable to speak or it’s not safe to speak,” said Public Information Officer for the Arlington County Police Department Ashley Savage. “We always encourage people to call when you can because our dispatchers are trained, but if it’s unsafe to do so, use the text to 911 feature.”
Dayton left the victim’s residence on foot before police arrested him in the building.
“This is an unlawful entry. The suspect had no authority to be in that residence,” said Savage. “But we want to encourage the public to always lock their doors whenever they’re home, whether it’s day or night.”
The suspect is charged with unlawful entry and assault and battery. Dayton is being held without bond.
