WVU student Sagaba Konate declares for NBA Draft

West Virginia

WVU forward Sagaba Konate has declared for the 2019 NBA Draft, according to WVU men’s basketball.

The team released a statement Monday saying Konate has submitted his name for the draft, and that he plans to sign with an agent. The news comes a few weeks after Konate filed for an NBA Draft evaluation.

“Every kid who plays basketball growing up has a dream of playing in the NBA,” head coach Bob Huggins said in a statement. “We wish Sags nothing but the best as he chases that dream.”

Konate tested the draft waters last season before returning for his junior season. He played in eight games and was limited by a knee injury.

The junior from Bamako, Mali, averaged 13.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in his abbreviated junior campaign. Against Pitt on Dec. 8, Konate set the WVU career record for blocked shots with 191.
