WV Senator Manchin and TX Senator Cornyn introduce bipartisan disaster recovery bill

West Virginia

U.S. Senators, Joe Manchin (D-WV) and John Cornyn (R-TX), introduced the bipartisan Disaster Recovery Funding Act on Thursday.

This bill would direct the office of management and budget to release $16 billion in long-awaited disaster relief funding within 60 days to nine states and two U.S. Territories.

West Virginia and Texas are among those nine states.

Manchin states that West Virginia has been waiting over three years for this funding to restore their communities, infrastructure and economies from the damage caused by the terrible June 2016 floods.

“There was a gentleman over there that the state of West Virginia told him if they let him tear down his property and tear down his house in the flood zone that he would receive $150,000. He did everything and they did everything they said they were going to do, except guess what? He hadn’t got a penny. Not one penny to rebuild. Those types of stories we are hearing everywhere,” said Manchin.

Manchin added he is proud to work with Cornyn on this bipartisan solution and hopes his colleagues from both sides of the aisle will support this bill.
