Wednesday was the second day of the Billy Evans trial in Berkeley County Court.
13 jurors sat in to decide the outcome of a Martinsburg man accused of attempted murder. On January 24 of 2017, Renzel Danforth, 20, of Maryland, and Billy Evans, 35, of Martinsburg, were both severely injured in a fight that broke out at a Sheetz gas station parking lot.
Several witnesses took the stand and evidence of the knife was used in the fight were presented. Jurors were also shown pictures of Evans’ clothing the night of the incident.
“He is offering a defense self defense arguing that he did not shoot Renzel Danforth until he was stabbed by Mr. Danforth,” said defense attorney Matthew Yanni.
Evans is charged with one count of attempted murder, six counts of malicious assault and five counts of wanton endangerment. Evans has pleaded not guilty.
