The Secretary of Veterans Affairs stopped by the Martinsburg VA Medical Center to discuss the Mission Act.
As of June 2019, Secretary Robert Wilkie said the Mission Act which stands for, Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks, is set to be implemented for veterans across the nation.
According to VA officials, this act will allow veterans to seek assistance and medical needs outside the VA hospital if resources aren’t available within the VA medical center.
Secretary Wilkie believes this act will expand caregivers’ programs and provide veteran to veteran peer specialists.
“Our mission is to make veterans whole and feel better and the options that we would offer a veteran would be designed to meet the mandate of the legislation,” Wilkie said.
VA officials say the Mission Act is in place to strengthen the VA’s health care system. The act is also expected to streamline community care programs.
