Martinsburg woman recognized by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department

West Virginia

A Martinsburg, West Virginia woman was recognized for alerting emergency dispatchers about a driver under the influence.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department acknowledged Shirley Writt for her work in contacting 911 during what could have been a horrific accident.

In April 2018, Writt was driving down Route 9 in West Virginia when she spotted a driver driving the opposite direction of traffic at full speed. Writt quickly responded by calling 911 and alerting them of the incident.

Police were able to tend to the issue and prevent any danger from occurring on the highway.

Writt received two certificates of appreciation and a medallion from Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Dougherty for her work helping law enforcement.
