Martinsburg seniors quilting to make a change

West Virginia

Several Martinsburg seniors have donated hundreds of hand-made quilts to nonprofits and charities across the Eastern Panhandle.

Seniors at the Berkeley Senior Service Center are sewing non-stop to get their quilts done in enough time to donate to auctions where 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards different nonprofits. Several of the women said they have been quilting for years and that it’s wonderful to see their quilts impact the community.

“We started by making quilts that were auctioned off and we made a number of quilts, quite a number of quilts produced during the year,” said Quilater Susan Dickson. “It feels great, we enjoy it very much.”

The Berkeley Senior Service Center’s next auction will be held at the beginning of May.
