Martinsburg community show appreciation for National Service Recognition Month

Community members in Martinsburg showed their appreciation for National Service Recognition Month by giving back.

At the Boys and Girls Club in Martinsburg, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Foster Grandparent Program joined forces to collect donations for the homeless and low income families.

Fourteen volunteers distributed food, blankets and hygiene products. Officials say the most needed items are winter coats.

“We like to see the homeless have food and warm clothing and even the low income… With socks and gloves and things like that really helps them because low income don’t have the money to buy extra things like that,” said Director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Shirley Vanmeter.

Officials say they collected over 1,000 items for the donation.
