Police say a man was arrested for shooting a boy multiple times after the boy allegedly ran across his lawn in Hedgesville.
Berkeley County Sheriff’s investigators say they were called for a burglary in progress, but when they arrived, Alemong said he confronted the boy on his lawn and the boy took off running. Officials say that’s when the boy was shot six to seven times across his back and lower legs. Further investigation shows that the boy never made an attempt to enter the home.
Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputies say 35-year-old Benjamin Allemong was arrested and charged for malicious wounding. The boy was transported to Berkeley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Allemong has been released from Eastern Regional Jail. His bond was set $15,000.
“The homeowner had heard a noise. He came outside. He saw someone running across his yard. At that time he opened fire with a 12 gauge shotgun, striking the victim several times with pellets from the shotgun shells,” said Berkeley County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigator, Sergeant Brendan Hall.
Officials say they are not releasing the victim’s name as the investigation is still ongoing.
