An illegal immigrant was arrested at the FBI Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia, after officers said he mistook the gate for a tollbooth.
At approximately 2:19 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, FBI police officers observed a green Toyota Tacoma with a Mississippi license plate travel to the East Gate of the FBI Center located off of Jerry Dove Drive in Clarksburg. Officers said the vehicle came to a stop at the gate house where the driver, Catarino Feregrinino, 49, made initial contact with them.
Officers said that upon initial contact, Feregrinino appeared to be confused and attempted to pay a toll. When officers advised him that he was not at a toll booth, Feregrinino asked how much money it would cost him to pass. Feregrinino was then advised to pull off the side of the road to provide officers with his license and registration, according to court documents.
Officers said Feregrinino provided officers with a Texas ID card. Officers advised Feregrinino that the ID he provided was not a valid driver’s license. Officers then asked Feregrinino if he had a valid driver’s license, to which he responded he did not. Feregrinino was then asked by officers to exit the vehicle, according to court documents.
Once officers discovered the Texas ID Feregrinino provided them did not come back with any information, they asked him if he had obtained the card legally, to which Feregrinino said he had.
Officers then conducted a search of Feregrinino’s vehicle and located a second Texas ID card with a different name, Mark Mike. A social security card for that same name was also found in the vehicle, officers said.
When asked about the cards, officers said Feregrinino acted as if he did not understand so an FBI translator was contacted. Upon being questioned by the translator, Feregrinino admitted to being in the United States illegally. Feregrinino told officers that he has entered the United States approximately five years ago when he acquired another ID that had been stolen approximately two months prior.
Feregrinino then told officers that purchased the Mark Mike social security card and ID card approximately two years ago and used those cards for employment purposes, according to court documents. Feregrinino also told officers that he had purchased the Texas ID card he originally gave them approximately two months ago.
Feregrinino has been charged with not having a license, fraudulent license and obstructing an officer. He is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail.
