HUD leaders impacting Martinsburg community

West Virginia

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Leaders across the mid atlantic visited Martinsburg Thursday morning alongside county officials.

HUD provides opportunities for small towns to grow, including overseeing hud-assisted housing, homeless assistance programs and community development projects. Thursday’s tour included the Local Homebuyer Assistance Program, a new Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle and Martinsburg’s Martin Luther King Park that HUD helped fund.

“Well look around, this park for example, there’s HUD dollars in this,” said HUD Regional Administrator Joe DeFelice. “So this was something the community obviously needed that it was severely lacking and because of our partnerships with the local and state governments we were able to provide funding to put this in place so the kids have a safe place to come.”

HUD was created in 1965 and its mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities with affordable homes for anyone.
