Quite an honor for the city of Charles Town as it is now designated as a full fledged main street community.
Charles Town has been named by the state of West Virginia as a Main Street Community. Awarded the Main Street Designation by the West Virginia Department of Commerce, last Thursday Mayor Scott Rogers made the announcement in the State of the City address. This is the first time that the city of Charles Town has received this award.
“It’s an opportunity to maybe provide some additional resources and focus more on helping our Downtown thrive,” said Daryl Hennessy, city manager of Charles Town. “We’re proud of what we have today, but we think with a little bit more financial support, with some design services, that we’ll be an even stronger Downtown community.”
Charles Town’s Main Street is one of 15 communities in West Virginia that has this designation. The other cities include: Charleston East End, Charleston West End, Elkins, Fairmont, Kingwood, Mannington, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Philippi, Point Pleasant, Ripley, Ronceverte, and Wheeling.
