According to Frontier Communications, crews are working to restore the damaged communication cables that are disrupting internet, phone and 911 services in parts of Mineral, Hampshire, Berkley, Jefferson, Morgan Counties and the Potomac Highlands Region.
Frontier says at around 5 a.m. this morning, a vehicle crashed into the utility poles near Romney, on Jersey Mountain Road.
The impact of the crash broke four poles and severed fiber-optic and copper telecommunication cables.
Frontier crews are still working to repair damages and restore services and will provide updates.
According to Berkeley County officials, landline communications are currently down in Hardy, Hampshire, Mineral and Berkeley counties.
Central Dispatch 911 Director Mary Kackley says the Frontier Communications system began having issues shortly after 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Nov. 21. Officials say the problem stems from Romney, West Virginia.
Dispatch officials encourage anyone needing to make a call to 9-1-1 in these areas to use a cellphone instead. For more information, contact the Berkeley County Council office at 304-264-1923.
Frontier Communications is working to resolve the issue.
