West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has declared April to be Safe Digging Month in the state.
As the weather warms up, many plan to begin shoveling for various spring projects. But, Martinsburg Fire and Rescue officials caution residents to pay attention to the colored lines on the ground because they can warn of potential dangers under the surface. Red and yellow lines should be payed most attention to as they warn of electric and gas or chemical lines. The governor encourages West Virginians to call 811 at least two full work days before beginning a digging project for safety.
