West Virginia

A 12-year-old autistic boy has died from his injuries after a duplex home fire in Martinsburg early Monday morning.

The blaze was reported on the 200-block of North Church Street, authorities said, shortly before 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they learned that the child was trapped inside, and previous attempts by the family to rescue him were unsuccessful.

Emergency crews were able to rescue the boy, who was taken to Berkeley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing between the Martinsburg Police Department, the Martinsburg Fire Department and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal.
