Winchester prepares for hockey rink funded by Washington Capitals

Comcast partnered with Top of Virginia Hockey Alliance for Comcast Cares Day.

The hockey alliance is working with Frederick County Public Schools and the Washington Capitals to build a brand new in-line hockey rink on top of the old tennis court at James Wood Middle School.

Comcast donated money for the rink’s construction, including a beautification project. The Caps will fund the rink’s surface and equipment for middle and elementary school P.E. classes.

“They touched base with James Wood Middle School because the rink is going right over here. It made sense for them to all work together,” said Comcast business executive Nathan Decker.

Top of Virginia Hockey Alliance is nearing its fundraising goal for the pad that the Caps will rink will sit upon.
