Winchester Medical Center holds hands-on nursing event for youth

The Shenandoah Valley has several high ranking nursing schools. Which many nurses say makes the area a prime location to enter the nursing field.

“Winchester Medical Center is largest employer of nurses. We have five phenomenal regional schools of nursing [that] feed us the students we hire as nurses,” said Lisa Zerull, Winchester Medical Center Director of Nursing.

Winchester Medical Center held their 15th annual hands-on nursing event for grade school students.

“I’ve already had a couple of kids come up and [say]  ‘Can you tell me what to do to become a nurse and everything?’ It’s really cool because I know a lot of people when they’re young, they’re afraid of the healthcare stuff when they go to a hospital they’re really scared of what they see. I feel like this makes them realize that it’s more of a safe environment,” said Danielle Jessurun, Blue Ridge CTC Nursing Student.

There were over 275 youth in attendance.
