Some of Winchesters’ favorite radio hosts are prepared to have a very late night and early morning now that the WINC FM Chain of Checks radiothon is underway.
Since 1984, Barry Lee’s annual Chain of Checks fundraiser at the station has brought in more than one million dollars for dozens of local nonprofits. Each year the station picks a local organization to be on the receiving end of donations brought, sent, or called in over the two day period. This year’s recipient is F. R.O.G — Families Reaching Out Group and Froggy’s Closet, which provides foster children and at-risk youth with clothing shoes and more at no cost.
“Chain of Checks has been going on for 30 years, we’ve applied for this, for at least three or four years, never ever imagined that we would be on the recipient so I was quite shocked when they came in and told us,” Tina Marie Sculley of F.R.O.G said.
If the station collects $15,000 from the community over the two day period, that amount will be matched.
