An insect biologist has dropped his second rap about bugs and the spread of disease.
Last year, Andy Lima produced “Tick Check 1-2” with the help of Fairfax County to spread the word about Lyme Disease. This year’s rap is about West Nile Virus and mosquitos.
“We wanted to reinvent the message a little bit and make something catchier that would appeal for multiple age groups and would be a fun take on a serious subject,” said Lima.
The message is especially important to Fairfax County, where one person died to West Nile Virus in 2018.
While serious, the disease is preventable with long, loose, light-colored clothing, and repellent. Lima also suggests getting rid of standing water to prevent mosquito breeding.
Lima reports in 2018, the state of Virginia saw more active human cases of West Nile Virus than ever before.
