Valentine’s Day dance for over 100 senior citizens

The Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging held their senior valentine’s party at the Clarke County recreation department Wednesday morning.

Over 150 senior citizens came together from the agencies’ six different centers to celebrate love and have a little fun on the dance floor. During the event, a valentine king and queen from each center were crowned and the agency presented senior center director Bonnie Dodson a plaque for her many years of service. Dodson who will be retiring this month says it is important to have fun at any age.

“A lot of our seniors live alone so this is a chance for them to get out to see their friends to have fun and interact with each other, and interact with each other they don’t get to see each other a lot in a group setting so its a lot of fun for them,” said Marsha Lebrecht of the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging.

The agency says they plan on holding more events that bring all six centers together in the near future.
