The popular ride-sharing service that changed the way we get to where we need to go, announced that it is now wheeling its enterprise-facing business into healthcare.
The new Uber Health service gives health officials access to a dashboard where they can order rides for patients. The passenger being picked up doesn’t need a smartphone. They can be notified that their driver has arrived via text message or a phone call. Healthcare officials say the service also complies with HIPPA privacy rules.
“This is not an emergency service. It’s not to replace ambulance or metro access, it is really only for going to non-emergency appointments, so if someone is in distress we’re calling 911,” said John Bradshaw, with Georgetown Homecare.
According to Uber, over 100 health care organizations are already using Uber Health, including Georgetown Homecare facilities in D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
