The Fairfax County Police Department reminds marijuana users that the drug is still illegal on 4/20

Virginia

April 20th, also referred to as 4-20, is a day often celebrated by those who support the use of the drug marijuana. The Fairfax County Police Department wants to remind people that in Virginia, the drug is still illegal.

The Fairfax County Police Department’s DUI unit will be on patrol looking for any suspicious or impaired driving this weekend. The police department does recognize that it is a holiday celebrated by a select few, they still want people to know the consequences of being caught with the drug.

“Possession of marijuana is a class one misdemeanor it carries with it a penalty of up to one year in jail and $500 in fines, generally we would discourage, this weekend, and every weekend the use of illicit drugs and alcohol, especially while driving,” said Lieutenant John Lieb of the Fairfax County Police Department.

Officers encourage drug or alcohol users to not to operate any kind of motorized vehicle while under the influence.
