Tuesday was the first Stephens City town council meeting since newly elected major, Mike Diaz, has come into office.

In December before Diaz officially started his term, the town council voted to amend the town code to transfer the majority of the mayor’s responsibility to the town manager. Diaz hired an attorney who sent a letter to town manager, Mike Majer, last month stating that he would face suspension if he chooses to take over any of major’s powers.

“Yeah the transition of power does certainly cause a little bit of an issue between the two. We will come to terms, we will discuss all the details for it and we’ll come to an agreement eventually,” said Stephens City major Mike Diaz.

The mayor says he’s happy the first town council meeting went smoothly and he’s excited to work with the council and town staff throughout his term.
