State wide survey shows which Virginia towns and cities are the safest

A recently released statewide survey shows which Virginia towns and cities kept crime under control since 2017.

Safewise, a security research firm, issues a “safest cities” list for all 50 states annually. For the 5th consecutive year, the town of Berryville has earned a top ten spot on Virginia’s list, jumping from 9th to 2nd this year.

Vienna, Falls cchurch and Purcellville also made the top ten. Survey results show that in 2017, Berryville had a violent crime rate of 0.23 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 8.79 per 1,000. Berryville officials say this past year they have continued to focus on property crime and being more proactive rather than reactive.

“I’ve tried to preach to the guys, if we look for the little things, in the beginning, to try and abait that, then we’re taking fewer reports we’re having less crime, it seems to be now bearing some fruit.” Chief Neal White says.

These rankings were based on violent crime rates.
