Senator Tim Kaine is looking at ways to address the rising cost of prescription drugs like insulin which continues to affect millions of Americans.
Insulin which is crucial for the survival of Type 1 diabetics has nearly quadrupled in cost in recent years. Some lawmakers say the dramatic increases are creating many challenges for patients and putting their lives at risk. Senator Kaine addressed the issue as the health education labor pension committee embraces their next health bill which will be focused on reducing health cost.
“43 million Americans or so are diabetic and about 7 to 8 million use insulin. The price spikes in insulin have been enormously challenging for people especially people on fixed incomes and seniors,” Kaine said.
The legislation will include a collection of strategies to reduce healthcare cost including the cost of prescription drugs.
