Scheduled closing for Arlington’s Social Security office

Virginia

Since 2011, the Social Security Administration has closed 64 offices due to budget constraints, and it appears as though another Social Security office will soon be on that list.

Arlington County’s Social Security office is currently scheduled to be closed in June. The next closest field office is in south Alexandria, and activists argue that office already serves a large population and is not easily accessible by public transportation.

The Social Security Administration received increased funding in the recent congressional spending bill; however, most of the funding is earmarked for modernizing IT infrastructure and addressing the backlog of disability hearings.
