Rolling Thunder brings presents to pediatric hospital unit on Christmas morning

In the 1990’s, Winchester Rolling Thunder started their tradition of visiting the Winchester Medical Center on Christmas morning.

About ten members arrive with Santa to hand out presents to kids in the pediatric unit and the emergency room. The group’s primary purpose is to help veterans that are in the VA system, in the hospital or out on their own and need assistance.

“It’s amazing to see the expression on their faces. It actually brightens their days. When the parents are with them, we try to brighten their days because there’s nothing worse than wanting to be at home with your child opening up presents than when you’re here in the hospital,” said Rolling Thunder President Richard Orndorff.

This year the group also visited Winchester nursing homes on Christmas Eve and the VA in Martinsburg.
