Early Tuesday around 6 a.m., the Fairfax County Police Department reports a 63-year-old man was struck while crossing Lee Jackson Memorial Highway.
Police say he was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Detectives believe the victim was not within the crosswalk. The woman who hit him was driving a 2017 Toyota Highlander and stopped to resuscitate the victim before she was rear-ended by another vehicle.
“Neither speed nor alcohol were factors with the driver of the Toyota Highlander,” said Second Lieutenant John Lieb. “Alcohol may have been a factor with [the victim].”
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
The driver is not being charged. Police are reminding pedestrians to wear reflective clothing when walking during pre-dawn hours.
