One person dead after fatal crash in Clarke County

Virginia

A Frederick County man is dead after two vehicles collided Monday morning in Clarke County.

Around 8:30 a.m. on April 29, a 2016 Nissan Altima struck a 1997 Ford Ranger while driving along Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) at the intersection of White Post Road in White Post, Virginia,  according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Coffey

Virginia State Police have identified the driver of the Nissan as Melissa Welsh, 30, of White Post. Troopers have charged Welsh with failing to yield to the right of way.

Welsh was traveling south-bound on Route 340, when she attempted to make a left turn onto White Post Road, striking the Ford, driven by a 25-year-old unidentified man.

The driver of the Ford was not injured in the crash, although the car did roll over during the crash.

Neither Welsh nor her passenger, Walter Mott, a 42-year-old from Stephens City, were wearing their seatbelts. Welsh suffered minor injuries in the crash and Mott died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
