One local non-profit, Empowerment Night Events, is raising awareness for bullying and suicide.
Susan Shick started the program when she saw a need for it in the community. Various speakers from the Winchester area come together and share their stories with the hopes of uplifting others.
“We have suicide prevention lines and groups but I felt we needed a comfort area, a judgment-free area and somewhere to give a platform to people like Misty who have life-experience,” said founder Susan Shick.
From middle schoolers to adults, all are welcome to listen and discuss the effects of bullying and how to cope.
“The thing about bullying is, they don’t realize it happens everywhere. They don’t realize it’s not just in school, it’s in your workplace, it’s in the gym, it’s everywhere,” said team member Misty Harris.
The most recent event was on Saturday and the next event will be in May.
