Every day, the nation’s 650,000 social workers act as advocates, champions and leaders who make our society a better place to live.
March is National Professional Social Work Month, which is an opportunity for social workers across the country and their allies to educate the community on the profession and highlight the important contributions they make to society.
Officials say social workers spring into action and respond to calls of local residents in need. They also show compassion and empathy for others.
“I think it’s really important that social work have a spotlight to be portrayed in a positive way. So many people believe social services is just out there to take children away from parents and there are so many things that we do for the community that are positive,” said Candace Veney, MSW.
