For 80 years, the ‘Ladies Board Rummage Sale,’ has been raising money for the board’s nursing scholarship fund and Inova Loudoun Hospital.
For eight decades, the board has been in the business of treasure; from coral, to cubic zirconia, odds are, you can find it at the sale. Monday, for the first time in history, the board did something new, honoring gems of their own — volunteers who have stayed with the sale for 50 years or more.
Rachel Roberts began working at the rummage sale at age 13 with her mother. Joyce Bangston, who began working at the rummage sale at age 38, is now 88. Mary Owen Chatfield-Taylor was 33 when she began volunteering at the sale, and at 99, she accepted her gold sequined apron.
The sale will take place in Morven Park Equestrian Center on October 21 and 22. It is the largest rummage sale in the Mid-Atlantic.
