The rankings are in and Virginia’s hospitals are coming up second in the country for patient safety.
Each year the non-profit hospital safety rankings group “Leapfrog” provides grades of individual hospitals around the country by using data that shows each hospital’s rating of multiple categories. These categories include cleanliness, infections, complications, and deaths from surgery, injuries, and any other possible things that could impact patients at the hospital.
Most of the hospitals in the Northern Virginia area received A’s and B’s. All five of the hospitals in the Inova Health System received A’s. Inova Loudoun Hospital is one of 41 hospitals across the country that has received A’s every year since the rankings started. Officials say this shows their continued dedication to safety.
“We are absolutely thrilled that we are sustaining it, but we realize there is always room for improvement, so it gives us the opportunity to continue to do what we are doing, and it also gives us the opportunity to say well we are doing something right. It’s an evolving process and you can never take your eye off the ball,” said Christopher Chiantella, Chief Medical Officer at Inova Loudoun Hospital.
