Head-on DWI crash kills dog, seriously injures owner

A head-on DWI crash sent a Burke woman to the hospital and left her dog dead.

Fairfax County Police say it happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday along Lee Chapel Road at Onion Patch Drive. When officers arrived, they say the drivers of both vehicles were lying on the ground. 28-year old David Algie was driving a 1997 Mercedes when he crested a hill, lost control and crossed the double yellow line hitting the second car head on. The driver of the second car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her dog, who was also in the car, was rushed to an emergency vet where he later died of his injuries.

Algie was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to the hospital and arrested for DWI. Police say other charges are possible pending lab results.
