About $600,000 in competitive grants have been awarded to 16 technical high schools across Virginia. Among these schools is Blue Ridge Technical School in Front Royal.
Governor Ralph Northam announced that the competitive innovative program equipment grant’s purpose is to upgrade career and technical education program equipment. The school received $37,500 and officials say it will be used to purchase computer numerical control machinery and an electric motor control learning system. The new equipment will help students become familiar with what technology they might use in their careers after graduation.
“It gives them that confidence, they go in for a job interview they already have some of that information under their belt. They feel confident the present themselves better so its a win win situation.” Jane Baker Principal of Blue Ridge Technical Center says.
The grant will also allow Blue Ridge Technical School to start offering a computer integrated manufacturing class for their engineering and trades programs.
