Frederick County veteran-owned business honored with award

Virginia

A Frederick County, Virginia-based business owner was named the 2019 Virginia Small Business Veteran of the Year.

Flags of Valor, founded by Air Force veteran Brian Steorts makes decorative wooden flags, while employing combat veterans and raising money for veteran-based charities. While the company was founded in Loudoun County, its workshop was re-located in Frederick County in the summer of 2018.

Steorts and the company itself will be honored Friday at a ceremony at Fairfax Community College, although the company’s Vice President Mike Taylor will be accepting the award of Steorts’ behalf.

“We take a lot of pride in being a Virginia company, being based in Northern Virginia, so to be recognized by the state of Virginia, in the home state, where this entire thing kind of opened our doors, it’s really really cool,” said Taylor.
