For the first time, Arlington Public Schools offers free flu shots at school

More from Northern Virginia

Arlington Public Schools wants to keep its classrooms filled with healthy students. That’s why for the first time APS partnered with Healthy Schools to provide free flu shots to its students.

Healthy Schools is the largest vaccine provider that organizes flu shot clinics, staffed with qualified nurses who are trained to treat children.

“We’re increasing awareness about the importance of flu shots, we’re providing education around that through the information that parents receive, and then we’re making it easy for parents to access by having it right there where their child attends,” said Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Cintia Johnson.

According to APS, it’s the only system in Northern Virginia to partner with Healthy Schools. The county plans to partner with the program again next fall.
