Food insecurity steadily decreases in Winchester

More from Northern Virginia

St. Paul’s on the Hill Episcopal Church held their first Sunday food pantry of the new year.

The Winchester area church organizes a food pantry on the first Sunday of each month. According to Feeding America,  Winchester had a food insecurity rate of 10.9 % in 2018. That rate has steadily decreased by about one percent each year since 2014. St.Paul’s receives donations from Martin’s and church members.

“Well right now we have about 153, roughly, people that come in and access the food pantry. Everyone in the congregation gets involved and they come down and put the food in the bags,” said food pantry organizer Linda Binder.

Feeding America says that hunger affects one in eight Americans nationwide.
