ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WDVM) — According to police, an SUV vehicle struck a Jersey barrier at the intersection of Route 1 and Potomac Avenue early Tuesday morning.
Police say the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. when the driver hit a jersey barrier. No other drivers were hit or injured during the crash, but two people helped get the driver out of the car and a doctor administered CPR until parademics arrived.
“We haven’t had very many big crashes that we’ve been made aware of. Crashes happen, but this is the first major one we’ve seen here in a little bit,” said Amanda Paga with the Alexandria Police Department.
Police say the driver has been transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
