Crash leaves 1 dead, 2 injured in Shenandoah County

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident in Shenandoah County on Monday morning.

According to a press release from Sgt. Brent Coffey, around 10:25 a.m., a 2009 Chevy Cobalt was traveling southbound on Route 623 (Back Rd.), when the driver lost control of the car and struck a north-bound 1998 Chevy Silverado.

The driver of the Cobalt, Elisa Montalvo, 19, of Bradenton, Florida, suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to the UVA Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries. Troopers say Montalvo was not wearing a seatbelt.

Both the driver and the passenger of the Silverado were seriously injured in the crash. The driver was described by troopers as a 77-year-old Strasburg man, while the passenger was described as a 58-year-old man. Both men were wearing their seatbelts and were treated at Shenandoah Memorial Hosptial.

The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
