Burke teen dies after car accident in Clifton

Police say speed was a factor

Clifton, Va. - A 17-year old boy has died on Wednesday after his car crashed into a tree in Clifton on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say it happened around 2 p.m. on Fairfax Station Road near Colewood Estates Road. They say the 17-year old was driving a 2005 Jeep traveling westbound on Fairfax Station Road when the car left the road and hit a tree. Two other teens were in the car at the time of the accident. One remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other has been treated and released.

"Driving is a huge responsibility and it's very dangerous especially in Clifton. It's very narrow and there are no shoulders on the side of the road so it increases that danger. That's why the speed limits are 25 in that area," said Lieutenant Eli Cory, spokesperson for Fairfax County Police Department.

Detectives say alcohol was not involved but speed was a factor.
