Safewise has announced the 20 safest cities in the state of Virginia, and the town of Berryville has made the list.
Berryville is ninth on the 2018 list of the 20 safest cities in Virginia compiled by Safewise, an online consumer safety resource.
The list shows that the town, with just over 4,000 residents, had 0.93 violent crimes per 1,000 residents in 2016, the latest year for which the FBI statistics were available.
Officials say they owe the recognition to the constant support they get from their community.
“A lot of that is associated with the community itself. If you don’t have a community […] that’s watching out for each other, those numbers are going to drop, we’re not going to be as safe. We’re only nine officers over here, so 18 sets of eyes,” Police Chief Neil White said
Berryville’s ranking dropped from eighth in 2017, when it had zero violent crimes.
