The Inova hospital system is a nonprofit — all of its profits are invested back into the hospital and into the community.
This month, it’s the community that’s giving back to Inova. B. Doughnut, a shop in Leesburg and One Loudoun, has created a specialty lavender flavored doughnut to benefit Inova Loudoun’s neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU.
Inova Loudoun’s NICU is Loudoun County’s only Level 3 NICU, meaning it’s the only one capable of taking care of very small, very sick babies.
B. Doughnut was approached by a group of mothers to former NICU babies. Inova Loudoun is undergoing major renovations, including a new patient tower that will hold the hospital’s new NICU. It will hold 24 babies, double what the unit treats now.
“Parents will now be able to stay with their babies in the NICU,” said Inova Loudoun Hospital Foundation’s Executive Director Suzy Quinn. “So it will have both the pods as well as the individual private rooms for families when their babies are a little bit older and they really want that experience of being together as a family in the hospital.”
Each doughnut is $2.50. They will be sold until the end of November for Premature Awareness Month. The proceeds will also be going toward March of Dimes.
