LEESBURG, Va. - In just seven months of its existence, the Arc of Loudoun's Ability Fitness Center is changing lives.
The Ability Fitness Center is a therapeutic fitness and wellness center for people with developmental and neurological disabilities. The nonprofit was launched five years ago after its founder was paralyzed in a gold cart accident. Ability Fitness Center partnered with Arc of Loudoun in Leesburg, which houses and operates the center on its campus.
"For some people it's health benefits," said Helen Parker, clinic director of the Ability Fitness Center, "some people it's emotional benefits and other people it's some really impressive, exciting functional changes that they're having."
Until recently, Helen Parker was the only physical therapist on site along with a number of volunteers. Parker is now one of two.
