The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition says that the stigma against drug addiction prevents individuals from reaching out for help when they need it. The goal of the Addicted to Hope Rally is to break that stigma.
The rally is for those who are still in recovery, those still struggling with addiction and those who want to support others who have been affected by addiction.
“We’re getting the message out even as young as five-year-olds. We want to start talking to them about…positive eating habits and doing things that are active in your community and those sorts of things.Just those messages for prevention,” said Lauren Cummings, Executive Director of the Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition.
Last year, there were about 500 people at the rally and organizers hope to exceed that this year.
