According to Marion Myers, for two years in a row, The Reston Holiday Parade has been named one of USA Today’s Top 10 Best Holiday Parades — outranking the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“I think we have a lot of people that live in this area that are very, very loyal to their community and get excited about this,” said Myers, president of Myers Public Relations.
Reston Town Center kicked off the holiday season with its parade Friday morning, and sprinkled in some seasonal events throughout the day. Before a tree lighting by Santa Claus himself, the Conservatory Ballet braved the cold and performed a dance from The Nutcracker.
Train ride tickets for kids benefited the nonprofit “Cornerstones”, which supports those in need of food, shelter, childcare, and more.
“We think we’re a little bit different than other shopping areas, so this is our answer to Black Friday. Rather than getting in lines and stores, come and be outdoors and have fun. You can always shop tomorrow,” said Myers with a laugh.
