UPDATE: Puppies thrown out of car window, investigation underway

News

UPDATE: Wednesday, January 2, 2018 7 p.m. Oak Hill police are searching for the person who threw several dogs out of a car on New Years Day.

Brett Kees with Fayette County Animal Control said, “Whoever dropped them, dropped them right in the road. The black one…the witness said the person actually threw it out of the window.”

Tuesday around 4 p.m., Oak Hill Police responded to a call on Old Minden Road where a neighbor spotted someone throwing several dogs out of a car window.

Oak Hill Police Chief, Mike Whisman, described the incident, “A dark blue Chevrolet blazer, two-door blazer, had stopped in front of a residence or around a residence down there and threw apparently four puppies and two adult dogs out of the window and took off.”

Another person living nearby quickly saved three of the puppies, while the fourth one and the two dogs ran away. Three puppies were taken into custody by animal control.

“They’re the sweetest little guys, the black one seems like she’s a little bruised, but nothing is physically wrong with them. I mean look at them they’re beautiful, how could anyone do that to these little guys?” said Kees.

Kees said the shelter sees cases like this far too often.

“We’ve had animals come in that people have found in garbage bags. People don’t place a very high value on some of these animals like we do,” Kees said. “In a perfect world, those people wouldn’t be allowed to have them, but unfortunately we see it at least every week, if not every day.”

Whisman said they are still searching for the other missing dogs, as well as the person responsible.

“It’s a shame that people will do this, but hopefully someone out there may know something, or have seen something else that they could report back to us and we could check and see if we can bring these people in and charge them,” said Whisman.

Kees said he suspects the puppies are Austrailian Shepard mixes. Anyone with information on the Chevy Blazer is asked to call the Oak Hill Police Department.
